Mission Statement
The Friends of Kickapoo Valley Reserve is an organization of people dedicated to assist the Kickapoo Reserve Management Board in its mission to preserve and protect the lands entrusted to the Reserve by raising funds and public awareness, and by providing volunteers for needed projects.
History
The Friends of Kickapoo Valley Reserve (KVR) was established in November 2002 and provides the KVR crucial support by raising funds and public awareness, and by providing volunteers for needed projects.
Board of Directors
KVR Friends Board of Directors is comprised of seven KVR Friend members. Board members serve three year terms. KVR Friends board meetings are normally held monthly. If you are interested in serving on the KVR Friends Board, please call the Kickapoo Reserve at 608 625-2960.
What we do
The board of directors meets monthly on the third Monday of the month typically around 5 pm to support the Friends mission with fundraising efforts throughout the year. A few examples of our efforts include:
*Holiday Happenings event in December
*Concessions for the annual Winterfest
*Organizing and executing a Garden Walk in the summer
*Providing the pasta supper fundraiser for the Dam Challenge
*And much, much more
What we need
The skill sets needed for the activities of our board are varied. Here are some examples of talents that you may offer as a board member:
*Good organizational skills
*Interest in event planning
*Ability to direct volunteers and encourage their participation
*Interest in social media and the ability to post to our Facebook page and website
*Writing skills for newsletter production
*Accounting skills
*Flare for design
*Photography
*Perhaps you have a skill set we haven’t listed?
We are continually looking for board members interested in making the Kickapoo Valley Reserve the incredible experience it brings to community members and visitors. If you are interested in serving on the board please submit the board candidate application. Terms start in October and are three year terms with a two term limit. Current urgent needs are for someone interested in publicizing events or someone with accounting skills.
