REGISTRATION CLOSED AS OF JULY 20

THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST….

If you have ever dreamed of floating down a river in the middle of summer on a homemade raft like Mark Twain, then you’ll want to live your dream at the first ever Rustic Raft Rally, sponsored by Friends of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve as part of the Traditional Wisdom Celebration on July 28.

Participants will build rafts using natural materials and float from KVR landing 12 to bridge 14. To qualify for prize money, two people must have at least half of their body out of the water and be on top of the raft at the finish line. Prize money will be split evenly among rally finishers. This event is open to all ages, clubs, groups, and individuals. Registration is first come, first registered and there is a limit of ten rafts. Other activities at the Traditional Wisdom Celebration include crafts and skills demonstrations, treasure hunts for adults and children, a paleo smorgasbord, and campfire entertainment. All activities are at the KVR. Free and open to the public.

TRADITIONAL WISDOM CELEBRATION, featuring the RUSTIC RAFT RALLY will be a celebration of the customs, crafts, skills, and ingenuity of the past.  Saturday, July 28, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve will be the setting for this special event featuring a paleo smorgasbord, traditional crafts and skills demonstrations, treasure hunts for kids and adults, campfire entertainment, and a homemade raft float on the river. This family-oriented event is sponsored by the Friends of KVR and is FREE and open to the public. Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; raft rally 1:00.

Creative Communities Canvas Project

The Creative Communities Canvas Project is a community art project involving 350 artists of all ages and talents. Participants receive a 6-inch-by-6- inch art canvas to artistically interpret the following word as it pertains to nature: WISDOM

Instructions for registering your canvas are included with each canvas or can be found on our website kickapoovalley.wi.gov

Art canvases can be picked up at the KVR Visitor Center starting Tuesday, January 2nd or local libraries** (see list below) beginning January 20th and must be returned to the KVR Visitor Center no later than February 26, 2018 by 4:30 pm.
Participating local libraries: Norwalk, Wilton, Ontario, Cashton, Westby, La Farge, Viola, Soldiers Grove, Viroqua, Hillsboro.
There aren’t many canvases left. Be sure to grab your canvas soon. For more information on this project call the Visitor Center 608-625-2960
